Email templates let you create reusable email content that can be inserted into cadence steps. Templates support dynamic variables and spintax for personalization at scale.
Creating a Template
- 1
Go to Templates → Email → 'New Template'.
- 2
Enter a template name (must be unique in your organization).
- 3
Write the subject line — you can use variables like {{contact.firstName}}.
- 4
Write the email body in the HTML editor. Use the toolbar for formatting.
- 5
Optionally write a plain-text version for email clients that don't render HTML.
- 6
Save the template.
Using Variables
Variables use Handlebars-like syntax: {{category.fieldName}}. They are resolved at send time with actual contact and sender data.
| Variable | Example Output | Fallback |
|---|---|---|
| {{contact.firstName}} | John | Use: {{contact.firstName | "there"}} |
| {{contact.lastName}} | Smith | |
| {{contact.email}} | john@example.com | |
| {{contact.companyName}} | Acme Inc | |
| {{contact.jobTitle}} | CTO | |
| {{sender.name}} | Jane Doe | |
| {{sender.email}} | jane@yourcompany.com | |
| {{custom.variableName}} | (your custom value) | Defined in Settings → Custom Variables |
Using Spintax
Spintax creates randomized variations to make each email unique. Use curly braces with pipe separators: {option1|option2|option3}. At send time, one option is randomly selected.
Example: 'I wanted to {reach out|connect|touch base} about {your company|your team|what you're building}' produces different combinations for each contact.
Use the 'Preview Spintax' feature to see all possible variations of your template. The 'Spintax Stats' feature shows you how many unique combinations your template can produce.
