Deleting Contacts

What happens when you delete a contact and the impact on active campaigns.

1 min read 9 sections 5 tags

Deleting contacts follows a safe two-step process to prevent accidental data loss.

Soft Delete (Move to Trash)

  • The contact is hidden from the main list and moved to Trash.
  • Active campaign enrollments for this contact are stopped — any running Temporal workflows are cancelled.
  • The contact can be restored from Trash to undo the deletion.

Permanent Delete

Only soft-deleted contacts can be permanently deleted. This cascades and removes:

  • All goal events associated with this contact.
  • All cadence tasks assigned for this contact.
  • All message events (opens, clicks, replies, etc.).
  • All messages sent to this contact.
  • All campaign enrollments for this contact.
  • All group memberships.
Warning

Permanent deletion is irreversible. Use the 'Preview Deletion Impact' feature to see exactly what data will be removed before confirming. You must type the contact's name to confirm.

Bulk Delete

You can select multiple contacts using checkboxes and bulk-delete up to 500 contacts at once. Bulk operations follow the same soft-delete flow.
